Irene Roskos, 82, of Eau Claire, formerly of Independence, died Sunday, February 9, 2025, at Dove Healthcare-South, under the care of Mayo Clinic Health System Hospice.
She was the 2nd of two children born to Knut and Jessie (Arneson) Amble on March 11, 1942. She graduated from Whitehall High School in 1960. Irene attended one year of college at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls, studying elementary education, and while attending college she met her soul mate and the love of her life, Charles “Chuck” Roskos. They married on November 25, 1961, in La Crosse, and their love endured for 60 years. Irene and Chuck initially moved to Winner, SD where Chuck took his first teaching job. In 1965, in an effort to be closer to family, Irene and Chuck made their first farm purchase, moving to rural Independence, WI. In addition to being vital to the day-to-day operations at the farm, Irene began working for the U.S. Postal Service in Independence in August 1984 as a postal clerk. She worked for the Post Office for over 21 years and eventually retired in January, 2006.
In 1992, Irene and Chuck sold a section of their farm and moved to the City of Independence. Irene and Chuck eventually settled in Eau Claire in December of 2013, selling the rest of their farmland and their home in Independence. Irene was a devout Catholic and gave back to society through much charity work including making fleece quilts for cancer patients and veterans, and volunteering at local schools. She was skilled in carpentry and could build and fix anything around the house. She loved her family, neighbors, and friends dearly and would often bake bread, cookies, and rhubarb pie to let them know she appreciated them. Irene was very proud of her four daughters (including her four son-in-laws) and her three grandchildren. She never said no to an adventure if it meant spending time with them. These adventures included: attending Packer games/training camp/parties, visiting WI waterfalls, biking in Boulder Junction, WI, attending sporting events for her grandchildren, and driving annually to Massachusetts to visit her daughter Deb and her family. Irene was an avid biker and could often be seen riding around the backstreets of Eau Claire and on local bike trails on her much-treasured recumbent bike. She set goals every year for how many miles she wanted to ride and was very proud of achieving her goals with her personal best year in 2020 (1529 miles).
Irene is survived by her four daughters: Diane (Rich Petersen) Roskos of Hudson, Deb (Brad) Truini of Wrentham, MA, Dana (Al) Myers of Eau Claire, and Dawn (Al) Slaby of Eau Claire; grandchildren Anthony Charles Truini, Dana Nicole Truini, and Vincent Charles Slaby. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Chuck; parents: Knut and Jessie (Arneson) Amble; and sister Audrey Duebbert.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 3, 2025, at S.S. Peter and Paul Catholic Church with Father George Thayilkuzhithottu officiating. Family and friends are welcome for visitation one hour prior to mass at church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
