(KWNO)-A Winona man who was living with a elderly couple is under arrest for attacking one of them. According to a police spokesperson, 29-year-old Matthew Manka was staying with a couple in their 60’s at an apartment in the 600 block of Mankato Avenue. Early Tuesday morning Manka brought a woman to the apartment and an argument ensued about the woman being there. Manka allegedly hit the 63-year-old man in the head several times with a plastic liquor bottle. The man warned Manka to stop but when he didn’t, the man hit Manka on the head with what the spokesperson described as a “cylindrical club, similar to a police baton, that also acts as a taser.” The impact ended the assault and caused an injury to Manka’s head. He was treated at the hospital and is charged with fifth-degree assault. The victim was not cited because investigators determined he was acting in self-defense.
