(KWNO)-The Special Athletic Competition, hosted by Winona Area Public Schools, will be held on Friday, May 17 at Paul Giel Field. The event will once again feature students from all WAPS buildings in addition to students from schools around the region. In total, 195 athletes from 13 different school districts will participate. The event is free and open to the public and competition starts at 9 a.m.
The track and field events are for students from kindergarten through high school who have varying abilities. Events include the softball throw, ball kick, long jump, bean bag toss, 5-yard dash and a 4×50 relay race. There will also be face painting and adaptive activities for the athletes and their families.
