ST. PAUL, Minn. (KWNO)-The Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA) is awarding grants to three area communities combating noxious weeds.

Funding is heading for the City of Lewiston to clean up Prairie Trails Park, Houston County to Control of Japanese Hops Along the Root River Corridor, and Wabasha County Soil and Water Conservation District for Bohemian Knotweed management at Hammond Creek.

Each entity is receiving $5,000. Recipients are required to spend the grant money in one year.

Noxious weeds are plants that have the potential or are known to be harmful to human or animal health, the environment, public roads, crops, livestock, or other property. There are currently 48 plants on Minnesota’s Noxious Weed List, according to the MDA.
