(KWNO)-Local business leaders, community partners and residents are invited to explore the connection between STEM education and Winona’s future workforce at Building the Future: STEM & Workforce Development Business & Community Open House on Tuesday, November 17, 2026, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Saint Mary’s University.

The open house will offer a firsthand look at how students are developing the technical, problem-solving, communication and teamwork skills that today’s employers value. Attendees will have an opportunity to see students in action as they tackle real-world challenges, learn more about the impact of STEM education, and discover ways local businesses and organizations can support student development while investing in the region’s future workforce.

The event is also a preview of the Bluff Country Regional FIRST Robotics Competition, March 3–6, 2027 at SMU. The regional competition is expected to bring 42 high school robotics teams to Winona, representing approximately 1,100–1,200 students and mentors, along with volunteers and visiting family members.
