(KWMN)-
(4) Rushford-Peterson hosted (5) Triton for the quarterfinal round of Minnesota High School Football Section 1AA. The Trojans looked to avenge last year’s first round defeat to the Cobras, and they need to start off fast to do so.
Carson Johnson ignited the Trojan crowd on the opening kickoff, setting up Rushford-Peterson at the Triton 31-yard line. A swift two-play drive was capitalized by Creighton Hoiness, who found Cole Thompson wide open on a corner route for the first score of the game. After a quick three-and-out by the Cobra offense, Owen Lange closed a drive on first-and-goal at the one-yard-line to give the Trojans a 13-0 lead. Hoiness broke out the play action again for a 50-yard catch-and-maneuver from Thompson a 20-0 lead by the late stages of the first quarter.
While the Cobras faced a major deficit, they slowly worked their way back. Graden Thomas found space on quarterback draw for 39-yard score on third-and-11. He found a trio of Cobras for passing touchdowns to give the Cobras a 27-20 advantage midway through the third quarter. With a scoring drought, the Trojans needed a spark to get back in control.
Lange took advantage of 55-yard drive for the Trojans with a 20-yard sprint. He would pull a hat trick in the next drive to give the Trojans the push to regain control. Jaxon Johnson capped off the run with another score from 18-yards away. With a 40-34 lead with 1:30 left in regulation, Owen Lange burst through the B-gap on fourth-and-one to survive and advance to the next round for the Trojans.
(4) Rushford-Peterson will go to (1) Caledonia on Halloween Night for a trip to the section championship game on the line. The Trojans faced Warriors on Sept. 4, losing in overtime 25-18. They look to settle the score on Saturday night at 7 pm.
