Rushford-Peterson High School hosted senior night before the school’s matchup against Rochester Lourdes on Friday, Oct. 9. The Trojans (4-1) were seeking their fifth consecutive victory against the Eagles (2-3).

The Rushford defense created a first on the opening drive, the first interception from Eagle quarterback Chase Caroll on third down. Ayden Garrett tracked down his errant pass to give the Trojans the ball. While they went three and out, the next possession resulted in a five-yard touchdown from Carson Johnson to end the first quarter with a 7-0 lead.

Caroll responded early in the second with a strike to Isaac Halverson from 28-yards out. After a blocked extra point made it 7-6, Owen Lange burst up the middle for a 53-yard stride to extend the Trojans lead to eight. Caroll put together another drive for Lourdes, closing it with a four-yard option to paydirt. With a 14-12 lead, Garrett completed a 21-yard toss to Cole Thompson for another score in the second. After the Eagles fumbled in their own territory, Garrett scrambled for an 11-yard touchdown as time expired for the half. The Trojans tool control with a 28-12 lead at intermission.

Returning from the break, the Trojans piled on a couple more scores on the ground. Jaxon Johnson connected on an outside run from 16-yards. A quick drive and score from the Eagles would keep within two scores. After a 37-yard bolt from Lange, Garrett snuck into the endzone for another touchdown. Caroll responded with a heave to Michael Segar for a 26-yard catch for six. Carson Johnson closed the game for the Trojans with a 14-yard sprint to give the Trojans a 49-26 final score.

The Trojans have won five consecutive games, moving to 5-1 overall on the season. They prepare for Wednesday night, when they travel to Dover Eyota for their penultimate regular season game.
