(KWNO)-Diesel fuel leaked from a tugboat into the Mississippi River in Winona. According to the Winona County Sheriff’s Office, the incident was reported on Monday afternoon when a tugboat released “less than 50 gallons of fuel” near Lock and Dam 5A.
The Winona Fire Department set up boom to contain the spread of the fuel, and the U.S. Coast Guard will investigate the cause of the spill, according to a press release from Winona County. Cleanup is being handled by a “contracted environmental cleanup company hired by the responsible party.”
