Fire Marshall warns not all fireworks legal in Minnesota

By Jason Melillo Jul 4, 2026 | 5:13 AM

(MNN)-Before you light the fuse this Fourth of July, the State Fire Marshal wants Minnesotans to remember that only non-explosive novelty fireworks are legal in the state.

“And they are fireworks that stay on the ground. They might emit some sparks. But the simplest thing is if it shoots up in the air or it goes boom, that’s illegal in Minnesota,” says State Fire Marshal Dan Krier.

Krier says grass and debris can still burn despite all the recent rainfall.
