(MNN)-State lawmakers approved a $1.2 billion infrastructure package but did not fulfill LIUNA Minnesota & North Dakota’s funding request to replace lead drinking water lines. Legislative director John Thorson says they were asking for $100 million and received $15 million in the bonding bill to remove lead service lines. Thorson says the state has a goal of replacing 90,000 lead lines by 2033, and this funding will only remove around 1,200 pipes. Lawmakers invested $243 million in the program when there was a budget surplus in 2023.
