(KWNO)-A 66-million-year-old dinosaur fossil is coming to Winona State University. The massive Edmontosaurus fossil will be installed at the WSU Science Laboratory Center starting Thursday, December 4. The fossil, nicknamed Medusa, is believed to be a “dinosaur mummy,” meaning it could contain preserved skin and soft tissues which are rare and extremely valuable for researchers.

Medusa was discovered at the Hell Creek Formation in North Dakota. It will arrive in Winona encased in a large plaster jacket measuring 12 feet long and seven feet wide. A window of the science building will have to be removed to get the fossil into the laboratory. According to a WSU press release, the fossil will eventually be on display for students, researchers, and the community.
