Bernice B. Matzke

Bernice B. Matzke, age 103 of St. Charles, passed away at the St. Charles Assisted Living surrounded by her family on Friday, November 14 2025.

Bernice Bertha Tews was born in Winona to Harry and Beata (Tews) Tews on March 6, 1922. She married Urban Robert Edward Matzke on October 9, 1941. Bernice and Urban shared 55 years together before his passing in 1996. Bernice was a member of Jehovah Evangelical Lutheran Church of Altura.

Bernice is survived by her children Sharon Matthees of Rollingstone, Pat Miller of Lewiston, Bette Wall of Eyota, Carol Johnson of Arden Hills and John (Mary) Matzke of Rochester, 15 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter. She is further survived by her sister Neva Neumann of Altura and sister-in-law Joan Tews of Winona.

Bernice was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one daughter Mary Davison in 2006 and siblings Richard Tews and Irma Connaughty

Funeral services will be held at Jehovah Evangelical Lutheran Church of Altura on Friday, November 21, 2025 at 11:00 a.m.

Visitation will be held at the church on Thursday, November 20, 2025 from 5-7 p.m. and one hour prior to services.

Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery at Norton.
