Gunshots lead to arrest Thursday in Winona

(KWNO)-Thursday morning Winona police officers responded to a shots fired call in the 350 block of East 5th Street. Officers located shell casings in the road and spoke to witnesses who described the alleged shooter who was found at a nearby residence. The suspect, 40-year-old Jonathan Marquist Payton, was taken into custody without incident. A handgun was also found at the residence, but a WPD spokesperson said investigators are still uncertain if that was the weapon fired. According to the WPD Facebook page, there are no gunshot victims from the incident and no ongoing threat to public safety.
