(MNN)- A new Minnesota law requires most people born after June 30, 2004, to obtain a watercraft operator’s permit before using a motorboat or personal watercraft. People born before July 1, 1987, will remain exempt unless they fall under specific scenarios, including supervising younger operators or renting a watercraft. You can visit the Minnesota DNR’s website for a link to a third-party site where you can complete your boater safety course, or you can ask for a free paper version of the test to take at your own pace and send back to the DNR.
