(MNN)-The fight against the invasive spongy moth, formerly known as the gypsy moth, continues next month in southeast Minnesota. The Department of Agriculture says low-flying planes will spray seven sites in Fillmore, Winona, and Houston counties between July 1 and 3. Crews will use a non-toxic, waxy substance with pheromones designed to confuse male moths and disrupt mating. The spongy moth is an invasive forest pest that feeds on more than 300 species of deciduous trees and shrubs, including aspen, oak, and birch.
