(MNN)- A Minnesota lawmaker is moving closer to awarding a Congressional Gold Medal to the “Miracle on Ice” Olympic team. The bill’s sponsor is Representative Pete Stauber from Duluth. The legislation has successfully passed through the U.S. House and has garnered bipartisan support in the Senate, including from Minnesota Senators Amy Klobuchar and Tina Smith. If approved, the bill would award three Congressional Gold Medals to the U.S. Olympic men’s hockey team that defeated the Soviet Union to win gold during the 1980 Winter Olympics.
