(KWNO)-A Winona man has pled guilty to his involvement with a shooting last October near the WSU campus. Police arrived at an apartment building in the early morning hours of October 17, 2024 for reports of a shooting. Officers found 27-year-old Cole Cameron leaning over another man who had a gunshot wound to his chest. Cameron admitted to shooting the victim. According to court documents both men were intoxicated and an argument led to the shooting. The victim was airlifted to a hospital in La Crosse and survived. Cameron was charged with first-degree assault. Under the terms of his plea agreement, Cameron entered a guilty plea to a second-degree assault charge in exchange for the dismissal of the other charges, as well as a misdemeanor fifth-degree assault charge stemming from an earlier incident.
