(KWNO)-A funeral for Goodview Fire Chief Jason Gruett will be this Thursday. Officials say Gruett died unexpectedly at his home this past Thursday at age 51. Gruett served 19 years with Goodview Fire and Rescue and had been chief for seven years. Governor Walz ordered flags lowered to half-staff through Thursday in honor and remembrance of Chief Gruett.

According to a press release from Goodview Fire and Rescue, “Gruett’s family wants to remind first responders and others about the importance of mental health” and urges them to “contact a friend, a colleague or a professional” if they’re struggling with mental health issues. A visitation for Gruett will be Wednesday from 4 to 7 p-m in Goodview.
