(KWMN)- The Rushford-Peterson boys managed a comeback victory over Southland in the Section 1A semifinal on Saturday, punching their ticket to the section championship with a 67-61 victory.
The Trojans entered the locker room at the half down 25-20. It was another lackluster start for a Rushford-Peterson side that doesn’t typically struggle to shoot the ball. It was similar to their quarterfinal matchup the round before, where they were tied at the break. Again, in similar fashion, they erupted in the second half. Scoring 47 points in route to a semifinal victory.
Sophomore star, Cayden Lea, dazzled again, finishing with 27 points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals. Junior Will Lafleur led the defensive charge with a whopping six steals on the night.
The 3-seeded Trojans will advance on to their first section title game since 2018. They’ve met with Goodhue once before in this game, losing in overtime in the section championship in 2017. They most recently faced Goodhue in the section tournament last season in the quarterfinals, losing that matchup as well.
The Section 1A championship game will tip at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday Night from the Civic Center. We’ll be live on the coverage starting at 5:45 p.m. on the Winona Sports Network.
Also, be sure to tune into Upon Further Review today, as head coach, Chris Drinkall, will join the program to discuss the victory, and upcoming matchup.
Elsewhere, across the river, the #1 Cochrane-Fountain City boy’s teams just won their regional championship game, beating Loyal 57-43. They’ll face #2 Columbus Catholic in the Section semifinals.
