Cotter Girls Fall on Senior Night as They Close Out Season on Saturday, With Section Placements Released on Sunday, Other Area Scores and Matchups

(KWMN)- A three-point halftime lead vanished quickly as the Cotter Girls see their Senior Spoiled, lose to Aquinas 59-48.

Clarissa Sauer scored 18 for the Ramblers, but it was the offense as a whole that stalled in the second half, as adjustments from Aquinas held Cotter to just 21 points in final 18 minutes.

“They went to a defensive plan in the second with doubling Clarissa Sauer,” head coach for Cotter, Pat Bowlin said after the loss. “Quite honestly, nobody stepped up…We needed someone who doesn’t normally score a lot to step up and it didn’t happen.”

The loss brings Cotter to a 16-8 record and stops a seven-game win streak.

It felt like a game that the Ramblers had played before, competing in the first half against a very good basketball team, and slipping late in the game to miss out on the result. It happened with Caledonia–twice–with Dover-Eyota and even with Austin.

Bowlin says that they aren’t surprised by the efforts from the opponents, they just haven’t stepped up to change the outcome,

“We know exactly what teams are going to do to us. It’s no surprise. hasn’t been all year. The good teams have really followed the same script, and we continue to flounder looking for offense somewhere.”

Cotter will close out the regular season tomorrow against Rochester Lourdes. Not only can they get revenge from last year’s section title game, but this matchup should prove to be huge for section placements that release on Sunday. A win, and they would most likely earn the #3 seed. Meaning they would be on the opposite side of the bracket as Caledonia, who’s a lock to earn the #1 seed, and the favorite to win the section.
