(KWNO)-A vehicle traveling as fast as 60 mph rear-ended an Amish buggy on Thursday afternoon in Saratoga Township. According to a Winona County Sherrif’s Office spokesperson, the driver, 20-year-old Carter Hovland of Chatfield, was traveling south on Highway 35. Hovland told deputies he was putting something in the backseat and by the time he saw the buggy it was too late.
The buggy driver, 36-year-old Norman Yoder, was ejected from the buggy and suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The horse pulling the buggy was not hurt. The WCSO spokesperson said charges against Hovland could be forthcoming, but the crash is still under investigation. Hovland was not impaired, according to the spokesperson.
