The Gal’s Stole the Grammy’s

And I am here for it. It seemed like this year was dedicated to the pop girlies (which I have BEEN saying), and it was proven when they took home allll the awards. To start of the only King that was sweeping up his awards was Kendrick Lamar. Kendrick took home five awards for his diss track “Not Like Us,” two of which were the big awards for Song of the Year and Record of the Year.

Then we have our new pop girlies bringing home some big awards as well. Chappell Roan took home the Best New Artist grammy; she also graced us with a super cute performance of Pink Pony Club where she served outstanding vocals, dancing clowns, and about a 20-foot-tall statue of a pink pony. We also got an outstanding and hilarious performance from our Short n’ Sweet queen Sabrina Carpenter. The star also took home an award for Best Pop Solo Performance for Espresso, and Best Pop Vocal Album. They weren’t the only first-time winners at the show.

Doechii the Don, Doechii the dean, Doechii supreme, the swamp ruler put on yet another amazing live performance, and I may add it was my favorite of the night. I truly believe that her and Chappell are the greatest performers and artists of our generation. Doechii brought home the Grammy for Best Rap Album which is a huge honor and as mentioned in her speech is only the third time a woman has won this award since it was created in 1989. She had lovely words to say and I am so eager to see what else Doechii continues to accomplish.

Last but certainly not least is our Queen Bey. That is right, Beyonce has finally won a long-awaited Album of the Year. Beyonce has been doing this for 25 years plus and has made several albums worthy of an Album of the Year award, and this year she did it. Cowboy Carter is a masterpiece from front to back, it is a listening experience, storytelling, history lesson. Beyonce has continued to push boundaries, bend genres, break out of boxes, and continue to bring people up with her as she rises.

If I could give you any advice it would be to give the time to listen to all these women’s albums as a whole. One at a time, from front to back, how they are meant to be listened. We were blessed by the gods with music this year and I can’t wait to see what these women continue to do, our other pop girlies, and the artists that we don’t even know yet.
