Canterbury Park plans to open the gates for racing in May 2025, but all eyes of the track will be on the state legislature when it opens in January. Canterbury officials are keeping a close watch on any sports betting bills coming from the capitol. Canterbury President Randy Sampson says sports betting can give the track the boost it needs to secure its future.
“I really do feel positive about the fact that at the end of the session there was a framework people were rallying around. Hopefully we’ll be able to pick up where we left off and move forward and get sports betting passed this coming year and I believe it is the best way to support horse racing in Minnesota,” says Sampson.
Canterbury Park submitted a proposal for 51 race dates in 2025. The Minnesota Racing Commission will consider the plan in December.
