Some pretty big releases this week in Rock:

In 1962, the world would be introduced to the Fab Four when the Beatles released their first single, Love Me Do.

The Beach Boys released the iconic Good Vibrations in 1966.

Some major accomplishments for some artists as well:

Cracklin’ Rosie by Neil Diamond would hit #1 in 1970, his first in the US!

Love Bites would be Def Leppard’s  first and ONLY #1 on the Hot 100 in 1988.

In 1995, Alanis Morissette’s Jagged Little Pill reached the top of the US albums chart.

Major accomplishments graced a few artists:

In 1979, Fleetwood Mac gets a star in Hollywood on the Walk of Fame

21 year old drummer Dave Grohl played his first gig with Nirvana when they appeared at the North Shore Surf Club in Olympia, Washington in 1990.

Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash gets married for the first time in 1992, tying the knot with actress Renee Suran in Marina Del Rey, California. Unfortunately, they would divorce in 1997

A HUGE honor for Rod Stewart as he was knighted at Buckingham Palace, becoming Sir Roderick David Stewart in 2016!

Misfortune struck as well:

Little Richard crashes a rented Nissan 300SX into a telephone pole in West Hollywood. The accident nearly kills him, and his right leg is so badly broken it requires two operations to repair. He credits God with saving his life and continues to preach in 1985.

In 1973, fans of the King of Rock & Roll were devastated (or some thrilled?) when Elvis and Priscilla Presley got divorced.

An audience member throws an M-80 firecracker on stage during a 1977 Aerosmith show at The Spectrum in Philadelphia. The explosion injures lead singer Steven Tyler’s cornea and guitarist Joe Perry’s hand.

And we lost an absolute rock ICON:

Eddie Van Halen died of a stroke after a battle with throat cancer in 2020.  He was 65.  For me, the wound still hasn’t healed from that one…
