Winona PD: Threat to Winona Middle School not credible

By Jason Melillo Sep 17, 2024 | 8:09 AM

(KWNO)-An alleged verbal threat by a student against the Winona Middle School was deemed to be not credible by law enforcement. The Winona Police Department was made aware of the threat late Monday and made contact with the family of the student. Investigators spoke with the student’s father and determined the “student does not have access to weapons,” according to a police spokesperson and a statement from Winona Area Public Schools. The student did not attend school today and WAPS did not offer further details about the incident citing the “privacy of anyone involved in any ongoing investigation.”

The police spokesperson said the student on Monday threatened to “shoot (the middle school) up.” A posting about the alleged threat on Snapchat was seen by a parent who alerted police. WPD does not believe there is any danger to students or staff but will be doing extra patrols today at WMS.
