(KWNO)-A search involving three law enforcement agencies and more than 15 officers led to the arrest of a man wanted for sending threatening text messages. On Tuesday 33-year-old Melvin Kimp allegedly sent multiple text messages to another man. According to a police spokesperson two of the messages read, “I have a gun” and “I’m going to shoot you.” On Wednesday afternoon an officer saw Kimp walking in the area of 6th Street and South Baker Street. When Kimp noticed the officer, he ran away.
Officers eventually tracked Kimp to a duplex where his mother lives. Kimp’s mother said her son was not in the house, but the landlord of the building led officers to an unlocked cellar where they suspected Kimp was hiding. After yelling several times for Kimp to come out a police dog and several officers went into the cellar. Kimp was found hiding behind a furnace. He was combative with officers, forcing them to use a taser to take him into custody. Kimp is charged with two felonies. The Winona Police Department was assisted by officers from Goodview Police Department and deputies from the Winona County Sheriff’s Office. Kimp was not armed.
