WINONA, Minn. (KWNO)- Winona Health hopes to administer 384 first time-doses at an appointment-only COVID-19 vaccine Thursday morning.
That’s according to Winona Health President/CEO Rachelle Schultz. Schultz also said they plan to distribute 1,100 second doses throughout the week.
Schultz said the second dose typically “gives a boost or kind of activates that first dose just to ensure the immunity levels are higher. That gets you up to that 90 to 95 percent efficacy rate.”
Last week, Winona County reported doses going unused after a vaccine clinic. Schultz says Winona Health was able to use all of their doses last week and said there’s a backup plan in place if doses go unused this week.
“If we don’t have scheduled folks for all of those doses on Thursday, right now we are looking at doing a walk-in [clinic] on the weekend,” said Schultz.
Those who would like to get their vaccine are asked to fill out an interest form.
Thursday’s clinic is from 8-10 a.m. It is open to all residents ages 16 and older.
