(KWNO)-A Hawaii man was cited for trespassing at the Winona Tennis Center. A police spokesperson said 30-year-old Tyrus Smith went into to the building around noon on Tuesday. When staff asked what he was doing there, Smith was evasive and then went into a bathroom. After waiting for 45 minutes for Smith to come out, staff called police. Smith gave officers a fake name and date of birth and said he was riding the bus to Wisconsin but got kicked off because he ran out of money. Smith said he didn’t realize he was in a private building and just wanted to use the bathroom but according to the spokesperson surveillance video appears to show Smith going through the Tennis Center’s lost and found. Officers searched Smith’s belongings to ascertain his real identity.
Smith entered through an unlocked door for members of the Tennis Center. The John Nett Recreation Center, which is connected to the WTC and part of the Cotter Schools campus, is a secure and locked building. A spokesperson for Cotter Schools said Smith never entered any areas on the Cotter campus.
