WINONA, Minn. (KWNO)- Severe Weather Awareness Week is underway.
Winona County Emergency Management Coordinator Ben Klinger advises households to use the week to come up with a plan in the event severe weather strikes.
“If you have a basement, the basement is the safest place to go,” Klinger said. “If you don’t have a basement, get to the lowest floor. A center room, a bathroom or a closet, something without windows.”
Klinger also recommends households put together a kit with food, water, blankets, emergency radio, batteries, and a cell phone charger.
The week also includes a statewide tornado drill on Thursday. Klinger says they will share weather information all week on Winona County Emergency Management’s Facebook page.
Severe Weather Awareness Week runs until April 16.
