(KWNO)-A man arrested by Winona police on Thursday night at Menards for huffing is the same person they arrested earlier the same day on burglary and huffing charges stemming from an incident Tuesday at Target. Officers found seven aerosol cans in a bathroom stall at Menards, five of which were empty and arrested 35-year-old Keith Schroeder.
Schroeder was arrested earlier on Thursday in connection with an incident on Tuesday night in which he was allegedly huffing in the bathroom at Target. Huffing is inhaling fumes from household products, such as glue, cleaning products or paint in order to get high. According to a police spokesperson, Target store video shows Schroeder emerging from the bathroom, walking around the store and possibly putting merchandise in his pockets. Officers searching the store found 11 empty air duster containers in the bathroom. Schroeder admitted to investigators he was huffing in the Target bathroom and told them he passed out and when he woke up the store was closed. He then took a few more aerosol cans and walked out the front door, setting off the alarm, according to the spokesperson.
Police had responded to two calls earlier on Tuesday regarding a person huffing at Ace Hardware and Walmart in Winona and suspected it was the same person on the Target video. Police made contact with and identified Schroeder at the hardware store but didn’t arrest him. The police spokesperson says the department is trying to work with other agencies to get Schroeder help.
