Winona City Councilman Borzyskowski arrested for DWI

(KWNO)-Winona City Councilman George Borzyskowski was arrested for DWI early Friday morning.

According to law enforcement Borzyskowski was stopped around 1:20 a.m. near Homer Road and Highway 43. Borzyskowski was pulled over for failing to maintain his lane and failing to turn after putting on his turn signal several times. Borzyskowski tells KWNO he routinely puts on his turn signal when going through roundabouts as a courtesy to other drivers and that’s what he was doing before getting pulled over. Borzyskowski showed signs of intoxication and his blood alcohol level was subsequently determined to be .09. The legal limit is .08.

“I thought I was okay (to drive) but it happened and I’ll pay the consequences,” says Borzyskowski, who has served on the Winona City Council for 25 years.

A Winona County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson says Borzyskowski told officers he’d had about three drinks in the hour prior to driving. Borzyskowski was charged with fourth-degree DWI and released.
