(KWMN)- The Winona State Warrior Football team ended their season on a high note and sent the senior class off with a 13-7 win over the Minot State Beavers.
The Warrior rushing attack was on display in the win, totaling 250 yards on the ground as well as scoring the lone touchdown for the Warriors in the game. Cole Stenstrom played a clean game, throwing for 186 yards and going 13/24. It was a lackluster box score for the offense, outside of the running game.
Senior Clay Schueffner capped off his Warrior career with a 10 tackle, 2.5 TFL, and one sack performance. The defense as a whole, finished with four sacks, while only giving up seven points.
It wasn’t a pretty win per say, but a win, nonetheless. Now, the program will say goodbye to their senior class, and begin the offseason.
Of the senior class, it’s not completely solidified who will be leaving the program, who stays for another year, or who may come back to coach as a graduate assistant. Of the names that, at the very least, could leave, is linebacker Clay Scheuffner, center Jordan Haddad, edge rusher Darius Manuel, and long snapper Morgan White.
Throughout the next week, and possibly even longer, the program will have a better idea of who is graduating or leaving, and who may be coming back, in any capacity. Head Coach, Brian Bergstrom, says it’s a little too early to really determine who all will actually be leaving. He said that some players participated in Senior day but are still undecided whether or not they want to return.
Some players will also look to play at the next level, regardless of how difficult that process is.
All in all, it was a season that fell short of the expectations the team set for themselves. For the offseason, it’s about getting better, and ensuring next season is one of a bounce back.
