(KWMN)-In a roller-coaster of a game, the Winhawks fell to St. Croix Lutheran, 22-21, to slip to 0-4.
The Winhawks started the matchup slow, dropping into a 14-0 hole that held up through the first half. In the second half, the Winhawks stormed back, scoring 21 unanswered points, thanks in large part to the rushing attack, and a 20-yard touchdown run from Deion Prolo that gave the Winhawks the lead.
The Winhaws finished the game with 212 yards on the ground, 124 from Jaden Blanck, and 70 from Deion Prolo. Both Blanck and Prolo reached the endzone on the ground.
In the closing minutes of the game, St. Croix Lutheran was driving, and they reached the endzone to go within an extra point of tying it up–but they decided to go for the win. The two-point conversion was successful, and St. Croix Lutheran took a 22-21 lead. The Winhawks, with barely any time left on the clock, were unable to pull off the win.
The best takeaway from this game, is the aforementioned rushing attack. Blanck had been, for the most part, quiet through the first three games of the season until the coaching staff gave him an opportunity in this matchup. Safe to say he earned some more backfield touches after that performance. Overall, the rushing attack for the Winhawks had been lacking this season, outside of Prolo making plays scrambling, the designed runs hadn’t reached their potential. Hopefully, the Winhawks can continue this rushing production.
