(KWNO)-Saint Mary’s University will transfer ownership of the Minnesota Conservatory of the Arts (MCA) to Cotter Schools on August 1. The elimination of 11 programs at Saint Mary’s in May 2022, including theater and music, facilitated the transfer. A press release stating, “the department and academic courses connected to MCA have closed.”
The statement went on to say a lot of the students served by MCA are elementary and high school age kids in the Winona area and that the transfer of ownership fits well with Cotter Schools’ expansion of programs on its Saint Teresa Campus. Cotter Schools assumes full ownership of the MCA property and is solely responsible for its operation as of August 1. All summer programming at MCA will continue as scheduled and fall programming will be announced later this summer.
