(KWNO)-Minnesotans who plan to use legal marijuana can’t possess, ship, transport or receive firearms or ammunition. That’s according to a statement from The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). Agents say that’s because cannabis is still an illegal, controlled substance under federal law.
It remains an open question if federal officials will prosecute someone solely for using marijuana and having firearms. ATF officials are also reminding those with a federal license to sell firearms that it’s illegal to transfer a gun to someone they have reasonable cause to believe uses marijuana. Recreational marijuana will become legal in Minnesota on August 1.
