(KWNO)- Claira Jordan, a senior at Winona Senior High School, was named a school winner in the Heisman High School Scholarship Contest, WAPS announced in a press release.
According to the release, this contest celebrates and rewards male and female scholar-athletes for their work in the classroom, on the field and in the community.
Jordan is actually a newer student to Winona Senior High, moving here from Mellen, Wis. for her Senior year.
According to the release, Jordan has participated in taekwondo since she was five years old and has earned her black belt. She helps run classes and teach younger students as well. Jordan’s black belt is recognized internationally, and she has a certification from South Korea.
At Mellen High School, Jordan played softball and was the team captain, earning all-conference honors as a Junior. She also played basketball, was on the forensics team, participated in quiz bowl, and was involved in Visual Arts Classics and Future Business Leaders of America. Not to mention she was class president in Mellen from 6th through 11th grade.
At WSHS, she got involved with the Theatre Group and Knowledge Bowl.
Jordan is also a National Honor Society student. She has completed several hours of community service both with NHS and without it.
This is WSHS first student to be recognized by the Heisman High School Scholarship program since Josh Bade in 2017.
