(KWNO)-The Winona Education Association (WEA) is inviting members of the Winona community to join in the celebration of public education in Winona at their annual banquet. The reception will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, November 29th, at the American Legion in Winona.
The annual celebration, which honors the many people who work to ensure that every student receives a top-notch education, coincides with American Education Week, which celebrates public education.
The 2022 WEA Teacher of the Year, Kirstin Schultz, a third-grade teacher at Jefferson Elementary, will also be honored at the event. For more than 30 years, Schultz has been a teacher in Winona Area Public Schools. Earlier this month, at a surprise ceremony at Jefferson Elementary School, she was named Teacher of the Year, to thunderous applause from her students and colleagues.
John Casper and Marianne Texley will be recognized for their work as Education Advocates. The Winona State University Education Department will also be honored for being a Community Partner.
The free public event will begin with a social hour at 4 p.m., while the program will commence at 5 p.m.
