(KWNO)- On Tuesday, Sept. 20th, Winona Police responded to a check welfare call for a 20-year-old on the 150 block of E 8th Street.
Upon arrival, officers noticed a full mailbox and knocked on the door with no answer. The door to the residents was open so Officers went inside to investigate.
According to Winona PD, officers found that 20-year-old Taylor Hammel had hanged himself and was deceased when the officers found him.
A relative of Hammel’s was the one that asked authorities for the welfare check after not hearing from him for some time. A different person, a friend of Hammel’s, had also tried contacting him on Sept. 16th, 17th, and 18th.
It is still not known when exactly Hammel passed away. Hammel would have turned 21 in October.
