(KWNO)- Winona Port Authority has been awarded $601,000 in cleanup funding for the 1.62-acre site of 60 Main Street.

The site, that historically was used as a rail depot and coal storage location, is contaminated with lead and other toxic materials.

After cleanup of the area, the site will be developed into a six-story, 52-unit apartment building with 2,100 sq. feet of retail space and a five-story, 68-room hotel with event space.

The projects are expected to create 66 jobs, increase the local tax base by $225,715 and leverage $39 million of private investment.

DEED Commissioner Steve Grove says of the grants that will be given to Winona and 10 other cities around Minnesota, “We’re excited about supporting more jobs and higher tax revenues through these grants, which will help transform land that was formerly unlivable. These Contamination Cleanup Grants continue to be an excellent investment in our communities.”

Matching funds will also be provided by the Port Authority
