(KWMN)- After losing in the first round in the State Tournament, Winhawk baseball headed to the consolation bracket in hopes of playing a couple more games of baseball.

That hope was washed away when the Winhawks fell in game one of the consolation bracket to Mahtomedi High, 10-0.

It officially concludes what was an historical season for Winhawk baseball. For the first time in Head Coach Matt Smith’s Winhawk career, and the first time overall since 1991, the Winhawks triumphed all the way to the state tournament.

The road was never easy, they had to deal with injuries and cancellations early on in the season. Fast forward to sectionals, they had to go through the top two teams in the section to even get to the state tournament, which of course they did.

Although they couldn’t garner a win at the state tournament, the season should be remembered long after today.
