(KWNO)-A child was hospitalized after an accident between a barge and boat on the Mississippi River.

The Goodhue County Sheriff’s Office says the accident happened Friday evening near Red Wing. Deputies reported finding 45-year-old Jeremy Koening and four children in the water near the Ole Miss arena. Authorities say all four children were wearing life jackets.

Officials say first responders performed life-saving measures on one of the children before they were taken to a nearby hospital for further treatment. The child’s condition is unknown, according to a press release from the Goodhue County Sheriff’s Office.

Koening and the other children were treated at the scene. Authorities say the initial investigation shows a mechanical failure led to the boat and barge collision.

The incident is under investigation.
