WINONA, Minn. (KWNO)-The mightiness of the Mississippi River is expected to decrease in the coming days.
NOAA’s hydrograph in Winona showed the river at 10.2 feet Wednesday morning. It’s expected to drop below the nine-foot mark early next week.
Up and downriver, the gauges still show the Mississippi at flood stage, however, those graphs indicate the river level will fall in the coming days. The high and fast water prevented Winona and Wabasha County authorities from placing buoys that indicate no-wake zones before the Memorial Day weekend.
Citing fast-moving currents and debris, Winona County Sheriff Ron Ganrude last week recommended boaters stay off the river until the water levels started to fall.
