ST. PAUL (KWNO)-The Winona Area Chamber of Commerce has received a $1 million grant from the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED).

The grant announcement from DEED indicates the chamber plans to use the funds to provide grants for eligible business and capital development projects in downtown Winona. The goal of the grants is to support economic recovery efforts from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Senate Majority Leader Jeremy Miller applauded the reward saying in a statement, “the Winona Area Chamber of Commerce is a fantastic resource for local businesses. They are an incredibly deserving recipient of this grant, and I am looking forward to seeing how they use it to strengthen our community and provide an economic jolt to the region.”

The Winona chamber was one of 14 recipients of funds from DEED’s Main Street Economic Revitalization program. DEED awarded $40 million in grants across the state.
