Winona 7 Receives $80,000 State Grant

By TJ Feb 10, 2021 | 10:48 AM

(KWNO)- The Winona 7 movie theater has received an $80,000 grant from the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED).

DEED distributed $13 million in grants to movie theaters and convention centers statewide as part of a relief package passed by the state legislature and signed into law by Gov. Tim Walz last year. $4.6 million went to Minnesota convention centers and $8.54 was sent to movie theaters across the state.

Businesses that received the funding were required to prove a revenue loss of at least 30% caused by restrictions meant to slow the spread of COVID-19.

“Convention centers and movie theatres are an important part of our economy that has been severely impacted by COVID-19,” said DEED Commissioner Steve Grove. “The state and our team at DEED have worked hard to award these grants quickly to help these venues whether the pandemic and bounce back during Minnesota’s economic recovery.”
