(KWNO)-A 15-year-old Eau Claire area girl is accused of leading Winona County Sheriff’s deputies on a pursuit.

The incident started Thursday night when deputies responded to the report of a wrong-way driver on Hwy. 61 in the Kellogg area. The deputies came across a passenger car parked on the southbound shoulder with its lights off.

A Deputy reported the vehicle took off south at a high rate of speed then turned off on Whitman Deering Dr. The deputy followed, activated his emergency lights and the vehicle began to speed up, according to the report from the sheriff’s Office.

Authorities were able to cut the vehicle off on Whitman Deering Dr. and apprehended the driver and passenger. Sheriff Ron Ganrude says the driver was arrested on suspicion of fleeing and operating without a license.

The passenger 15-year-old girl also from the Eau Claire area was a runaway, authorities say. Ganrude says authorities are working on learning how the girl came into possession of the vehicle.
