Winona State Loses Two Players to Transfer Portal

(KWMN)-

It was a jam-packed day yesterday for the Winona State Warriors, with some positive news and some not so positive news.

The good news lies with high school senior, Nate Gapinski. Yesterday the Watertown, WI standout announced his verbal commitment to the Warriors on a full scholarship. Gapinski brings size to a Warriors team that has lacked it in recent years. A 6-6 Forward, Gapinski is averaging 17.9 ppg, 5.7 rpg, and adds on an assist and steal a game. A rangy winger, with the ability to score from all sorts of spots on the floor, scored 28 points on opening night and has since garnered two performances of 30 points and 10 rebounds or better.

With the addition of Gapinski, although not directly correlated, brings the subtraction of two Warrior players that gave valuable production over the last four years. The biggest loss comes with star guard Alec Rosner, who decided to enter the transfer portal last night in order to explore “a new potential opportunity”. Rosner is not only the best player on the team, but he rivals with the best in the conference, averaging 18.8 points a game on 49% shooting while earning first-team all-conference honors. It’s no question Rosner will be a huge loss for the Warriors, the question lies in where to next? Rosner has the ability to play at the division 1 level, it’s just a matter of finding the right fit.

Not only Rosner, but the Warriors are also set to lose role-player Nick Klug, who announced his intent to enter the transfer portal yesterday on Twitter. Klug has a deadly outside shot but didn’t get a lot of minutes, or at least as many minutes as he wanted. The assumption is that Klug will stay at the D-II level, but no reports yet on where he intends to play.

It’ll be a new era for the Warriors with the departure of Alec Rosner as Head Coach Todd Eisner will have to look at his young guys at the end of the bench or find a replacement in the transfer portal.
