WINONA, Minn. (KWNO)-A Winona man faces a criminal vehicular homicide charge for allegedly killing a 20-year-old woman while reportedly driving the wrong way over the weekend.

35-year-old Adam S. Anderson made his first appearance in Winona County court Tuesday morning. Court documents accuse Anderson of driving north in the southbound lane of Hwy. 61 when he struck a sedan with three occupants near the intersection of Hwy. 43 early Saturday morning.

One of the occupants,  Hannah Goman of Steven Point, Wis., was thrown from the vehicle and suffered fatal injuries, the complaint states. The other two occupants were hospitalized for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

One driver reported seeing Anderson traveling the wrong way and attempted to alert him before calling the police. Officers were responding to the report of a wrong-way driver moments before the crash, the complaint says.

Anderson and his passenger were not hurt. The complaint says Anderson refused to submit a preliminary breath test at the scene and denied a voluntary blood draw at Winona Health.

Authorities detected signs of impairment when speaking with Anderson, according to the complaint. Officers obtained a warrant for a blood draw and are awaiting the results.

Anderson told officers he was returning from a dinner with friends and that he had two drinks, according to court records. The complaint states Anderson had to be held by multiple officers while the blood draw was conducted.

Anderson’s next court appearance is March 2.
