WINONA, Minn. (KWNO)-Winona State University President Dr. Scott Olson shared updates on the university’s COVID mitigation strategies and vaccination during an interview on KWNO’s In the Know Thursday.
Olson said the university encouraged students to minimize in-person contact for the first two weeks of the spring semester. He said classes were in person but many club and staff meetings were conducted over Zoom.
As for vaccinations, Olson said the state’s database shows 73% of the students at WSU’s Winona campus are vaccinated.
“That’s not a bad number to be in the mid-’70s,” Olson said during an interview on KWNO’s In the Know Thursday. “In terms of the faculty and staff, we’re at 93% vaccinated.”
Olson said students on the university’s Rochester campus have a 79% vaccination rate.
Last August Minn. State announced vaccinations or negative tests are required for students living in a campus residence hall, playing intermural or NCAA sports, and for students who work off-campus at sites with a vaccine requirement.
Minn. State also announced a vaccine or test requirement for all staff working at its campuses last year.
