Winona County Adds Winona State to Vaccine Clinic Rotation

WINONA, Minn. (KWNO)-Winona County Health and Human Services is planning to hold six COVID-19 vaccination clinics between Wed., Jan., 19 and Fri., Feb. 4.

The Jan. 19 clinic takes place at the Lewiston-Altura Elementary School from 3-7 p.m. Health officials will also offer shots Thursday from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the Winona Community Center at Maplewood Townhomes, Friday from 3-5 p.m. at Winona State’s Kryzsko Commons, and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. at the East End Rec Center.

The county’s $50 incentive for residents who get their first COVID-19 shot is in place until the end of Feb. Gov. Tim Walz recently announced a $200 incentive for families that get their 5–11-year-olds vaccinated as well.

Winona County Public Health Supervisor Melanie Tatge says data show the vaccine efficacy begins to fade five to six months after completion of the two-shot series.

“In the presence of the omicron variant we’re showing that the vaccine efficacy is even lowering so that booster helps boost us up to help provide us the utmost protection that we can get,” Tatge said.

The following clinics will offer Pfizer first and second doses for ages 5 and over; Moderna first and second doses for ages 18 and over; Johnson& Johnson for ages 18 and over; Pfizer boosters for ages 12and older; and Moderna and Johnson & Johnson booster doses for ages 18 and over.
