WINONA, Minn. (KWNO)-Local Author Jenny Baertsch said she always wanted to write a book.
When she sat down to write it, she said the words came pouring out of her and before she knew it, she had a children’s chapter book called Junkyard Tough: A “Tail” of Bravery.
She said the story is inspired by a junkyard cat who joined her family named Boots. It features illustrations and Baertsch says all ages will enjoy its message, especially kids between the ages of 7 and 10.
Baertsch told KWNO that she wanted to keep the book 100% local.
“From the editing to the proofing, to the printing and production done by Media Scope Inc. Right here in Winona, to the local small businesses that are going to carry this in their stores,” Baertsch said.
Proofing and editing were done by local elementary school teachers and students, librarians, freelance writers and editors, and fellow authors and avid readers. The book was illustrated and designed by Baertsch’s best friend and artist, Sara Pientok, also from Winona.
Pre-sale for the book is now open. There will also be a launch event at 10:30 on Sat., Oct. 16 at the Winona Public Library.
